Liturgy On the dignity of work
‘We must pay more attention to the one who works than to what the worker does.’ Pope John Paul II
Jesus was a worker during his earthly life. • First, he was a labourer alongside Joseph, and later during his public ministry he was a teacher, storyteller, healer, leader, servant...
In the Gospels, Jesus identifies himself as a co-labourer with his Father in heaven and describes his disciples as workers in the harvest of the Lord.
Christians can recognise the dignity of work by association with Jesus and the saints, and all those who work for a more just and peaceful world.
