Introduction to TK2123 Computer Organization and Architecture Zulkarnain Md Ali Rosilah Hassan
Learning Outcomes • Understand the operation, organization, instruction set, representation of data and electric components in a computer. • Understand the methods used to data transform as input/output of computer and knowledge of input/output peripherals for data transformation.
Understand the variations in computer architecture that arises from different system designs, and the tradeoffs in performance and capability that result. • Understand the role of operating systems.
Synopsis This course is about the architecture of computer system. Computer architecture is about the structure and operation of digital computers. Computer architecture is concerned with the operational methods of the hardware; with the services provided by operating system software; with the acquisition, processing, storage, and output of data, and with the interaction between computers. An understanding of computer architecture makes us possible to "ride the wave" of technology change, secure in the feeling that we are equipped to deal with the development as they occur; and have fun doing so. Topics include an overview of computer system, data in the computer, computer performance, CPU, memory, input/output, computer peripherals, operating system, arithmetic, instruction sets architecture level, control unit and parallel processing.
