What Is RtI About This Year? • CONSISTENCY • 2010-11 • All K-4 will be benchmarked in Reading and Math 3x yearly • All buildings will focus on interventions for K-2 in Reading with the realization that different buildings have different resources/capabilities at this point • Key thought: “We WILL figure out a way” • If you can do more, start with K-4 Reading, then into Math starting K-2 • Tier I and II will be primary focus “across the board”

  4. What Is RtI About This Year? (Cont.) • RtI Core Team Meeting, formerly SAT/SST will have same format, forms, basic process, and way to document student information across all buildings (samples in slides) • Give teachers what they want- • 1) TIME to work together that is productive for kids • 2) Support for the students and teachers • 3) A way to help kids sooner, not just by moving them out to a different room • 4) Encouragement for a job well done and progress • 2011-12 • Next year, we will look at K-4 Reading and moving into K-2 Math with further emphasis on Tier III

What Should We Expect in the Coming Weeks? • RtI Overview/ DI August 20th • AIMSWeb • trainings and refreshers week of August 23 • 2 cases of paper • 2 sets of Core Team binders for AIMSWeb teacher assessment directions/ information for K-4 • Copying to start in your buildings to get assessments ready for students to be Benchmarked beginning Sept. 13 • AIMSWeb BLITZ of benchmarking Sept. 13-24 • AIMSWeb data in system Sept. 28 • Beginning pulling reports from AIMS for 1st grade level meeting/ PLC the week of Sept. 27 • RESA Workshops available (copy) • Sample test cards • Letter/ newsletter out (sample in handouts) • Survival Kit • training (see calendar) • Kit up on WIKI on August 31st with edits throughout year highlighted website www.wwcsd.net/groups currently on 2nd page “RtI K-4 Surival Kit” • Complete calendar for the year- we will need to add to this as schedules are set in buildings • Set up visit with buddy school to see how they assess, meet in grade levels, or just get talking • Monthly “How-To” videos on website for staff and parents from our own experts • Pre-/ Post-/ Quarterly- Needs Assessments • Buddy buildings/ Contact people- Set up visit with buddy school to see how they assess, meet in grade levels, or just get talking • Support/ Questions answered- Work with Barb, Lynne, and myself- planned days • Professional Development will focus on Tier I and II—RtI Workouts, Tier I (e.g. DI, small group, behavioral, sensory, ESL, gross/ fine motor), Tier II (LLI, small group intervention, center/ work stations)

What Should We Expect in the Coming Weeks? • TIME to meet as professionals • BEST PRACTICE TEACHING FOCUS • Grade Level Meetings/PLCs/ data-based • Core Team Meetings • RESOURCES/ SAMPLES • WIKI, Survival Kit, other districts, Behavior ideas/ academic interventions, RtI Workouts • GUIDANCE • Auto-emails, calendar, monthly principals RtI P.D. meetings in conjunction with Instruction Dept. • COMMUNICATION • Auto-emails, pre-/post-quarterly needs assessment and feedback, observation in buildings, support at GLM

What Should I/ My Team Be Doing Right Now? • Make copies of AIMSWeb benchmark assessments to use with students (list given of what you will test) • Please get a copy to Barb Hastings of any of the things below as soon as you have them done • Begin filling in your building plan (sample) • Specials Schedule • Map of building with teacher’s name on the rooms • Grade level/ PLC meeting times (typical) • Intervention times (as set per grade level or when known) • Core RtI Team Meeting times/ dates for September (other suggestions of weeks in complete calendar) • Core RtI Team Leader (recorder) • Newsletter/ Letter out • Check out information on “What to Expect” page to keep on track • Watch for auto-emails from Jen • Share and encourage your staff to share concerns/ needs with Jen. We can’t fix what we don’t know is broken • You can always choose to be ahead of the curve! If you have a great idea, share your “Lifesaver” with Jen to share with others!
