  4. Current Governor and State Senators • Current governor: Rick Perry • Current senators: John Coryn who is a republican and Ted Cruz who is also a republican.

  5. Borders: Mexico, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana • Geography: Texas is big. It covers 286,601 square miles rivers form Texas’s boundaries. East Texas is home to pine forest, rich oil fields, swamps called bayous, and alligators. Borders and Geography

  6. Natural Resources/Agriculture/Farming • Natural Resources: Large mineral deposits, petroleum, and natural gas • Agriculture/Farming: Texas has good farming. Texas is a good place to farm because Texas has a good amount of soil. Texas also has hundreds of types of soil so in Texas you could grow a lot more plants.

History and additional facts • Historical Fact 1: Texas became the second state in 1925 to have a woman governor. • Historical Fact 2: In Texas there was a ship explosion in 1947 in the Texas City harbor and killed about 500 people and injured about 3,000. • Historical Fact 3: Spanish adventures began exploring Texas during the early 1500’s

Additional Facts • The Rio Grande, Texas’s largest rivers, is one of the longest and most historic rivers in North America. • Texas has thousands of lakes that have been made or enlarged by humans effort, or also could be called man made. • The Comal river, the shortest river in Texas is only 2 ½ miles long. • The first play by play radio broadcast of a football game took place in College Station in November 1919.
