2. Background • Accountability Reporting for the Community Colleges (or ARCC) is a set of performance indicators for the California Community Colleges (CCC) • The final report was published in Spring 2010 • Two level of analysis: • system wide performance • individual college performance • student progress and achievement • pre-collegiate improvement

3. Caveat Slide Official ARCC data is for RCCD, not MVC Present data was extrapolated at RCCD Institutional Research office Official college-level indicators may be available in 2012

Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators:Student Progress and Achievement Rate • Percentage of first-time students who showed intent to complete andwithin six years: • transferred to a four-year college • earned an AA/AS • earned a Certificate (18 units or more) • achieved "Transfer Directed" status • achieved "Transfer Prepared”

6. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators:Transfer “Intent To Complete” = attempted degree applicable credit math / English course.

7. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators:Awarded AA /AS “Intent To Complete” = attempted degree applicable credit math / English course.

8. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators:Became “Transfer Directed” “Intent To Complete” = attempted degree applicable credit math / English course. “Transfer Directed” means a student successfully completed at least one transfer-level Math and English course.

9. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators:Became “Transfer Prepared” “Intent To Complete” = attempted degree applicable credit math / English course. “Transfer Prepared” means student successfully completed 60 UC/CSU transferable units with a grade point average of at least 2.0 in those transferable courses.

10. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators:Earned Certificate (18+ units) “Intent To Complete” = attempted Advanced Occupational / Apprentice level Credit course.

11. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators: Percent of Students Who Earned at Least 30 Units • Percentage of first-time students with intent to complete and within six years: • earned at least 30 units • while in the California Community College System

12. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators: Term to Term Persistence Rate • Percentage of first-time students with: • a minimum of six units earned in a Fall term, and • returned and enrolled in the subsequent Fall term • anywhere in the system.

13. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators: Annual Successful Course Completion Rate for Credit Vocational Courses • Percentage of student enrollments: • in credit-based classes and • courses coded as “Clearly Occupational” or higher • where students earned an A, B, C or CR grade

14. Moreno Valley College: College Level Indicators: Annual Successful Course Completion Rate for Credit Basic Skills Courses • Percentage of student enrollments: • in credit-based classes and • courses coded as “Basic Skills” • where students earned an A, B, C or CR grade

ESL Explanation: Background • ESL Improvement has been the only inconsistent ARCC indicator • Only ESL enrollments that are two or more levels below college or transfer are included • Includes ESL 51, 52, any from the 70 through 99 only • ESL-54 and ESL-55 are college level and ESL-53 is only one level below, so they are not examined.

ESL Explanation: Pathways through ESL • No clear pathway for ESL Courses 70-99 • No prerequisites to clearly indicate a sequence • ESL 51, 52, and 53 constitute a clear sequence • Prerequisites indicate the sequence • When ESL 70-99 are excluded, the Improvement Rates for clear pathway courses stabilizes

20. ESL Explanation: Revised ESL Improvement Rates The overall ARCC ESL Improvement Rates are influenced by the ESL 70-99 Improvement Rate.

21. ESL Explanation: Implications • Change the course coding of ESL 70 – 99 • Conduct independent review every year to confirm the nature of any fluctuations • Dependent on the cooperation of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office

23. Suggestions for moving forward… Determine which indicators need improvement Understand how the indicators are defined Develop targeted treatments that are hypothesized to positively affect these indicators
