Where are the lines? • The statute, Public Law 107-110 Section 1118 • TEC Section 26 • Provisions and Assurances • Parent and Family Involvement, School Year Calendar
Par Inv Requirements • Publications
Language and Format • Par Inv documents in English and in other languages (such as Spanish) if you have the resources • Provide Par Inv documents in other languages when requested • Information and correspondence provided in a uniform and understandable format, and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents understand
Par Inv Policy • Reviewed and revised occasionally when the comprehensive needs assessment provides new findings • Evaluated annually with parent input to improve the content and effectiveness of the policy • Updated by the par inv liaison with the assistance of the PTA or PTO
Par Inv Policy • Must be approved by the local school board • Must be agreed on with parents • Must be published in the local newspaper

School-Parent Compact • It’s required by statute to have them signed by parents • One generic compact can be developed and used at all campuses within the district • The compact needs to be presented and discussed at the elementary school parent-teacher conference

School Improvement Schools that have not made AYP and are in one of the stages of school improvement: • Must notify parents before the end of the first six weeks • Must consult parents when developing the School Improvement Plan • Must apologize and promise to improve
Annual Meeting • It is advisable to conduct the meting during half time of the first home football game • Referring parents to the handbook and school website at registration is sufficient • The meeting needs to be provided at a convenient time and place to inform parents about the par inv program and their rights and responsibilities
