  1. Performance Analysis of the SensorNet’s Southeastern Transportation Corridor Pilot Viewer WM08, PHOENIX, AZ RAMON A. COLON DOE FELLOW FIU

  2. AGENDA • INTRODUCTION • EXPERIMENTAL SETUP • HARDWARE/SOFTWARE • DATA ANALYSIS • OBSERVATIONS • IMPROVEMENTS/RECOMMENDATIONS • CONCLUSIONS

  3. INTRODUCTION • Summer Internship • DOE/FIU Science & Technology Workforce Development Initiative • Oak Ridge National Laboratory

  4. INTRODUCTION • SensorNet develop the Southeastern Transportation Corridor Pilot (SETCP). • Purpose is to reinforce the inside interstate against illegal radioactive transportation. • Three working station have the SETCP. • Kentucky • Tennessee • South Carolina

  5. EXPERIMENTAL SETUP • Weigh Stations are checkpoints along a highway. • Purpose is to inspect trucks weight. • Driver pull over for additional inspection. • SensorNet added several devices. • Allowing the weigh station to detect radiation in an automated way.

  9. DATA ANALYSIS During my internship I was responsible of: Analyzing the data collected from the South Carolina station. Find patterns of radiation alarms and traffic flow. Analyze the SETCP viewer and identify inconsistencies.

  10. OBSERVATIONS • Radiation Alarms were random.

  11. Traffic Flow – May 2007 • Truck traffic is heavier Monday through Wednesday. • Dominant type of truck depends on location.

  12. IMPROVEMENTS • Length measurement improve by 35%. • WIM vs. Laser Scan Axle Counter

  13. IMPROVEMENTS • License Plate Reader • LPR accuracy improve by 46%. • One camera for each half of the truck.

  14. IMPROVEMENTS • Optical Character Recognition • Before OCR confused 36 characters. • Now OCR confuse only five characters. • “Alpha Zero” for personalize tags.

  15. RECOMMENDATIONS • Further analysis needs to be done. • To resolve the odd inconsistencies. • “Over Load” yellow sign. • Ghost Truck. • Weightless Truck gets previous weight.

  16. CONCLUSIONS • The stations are functional. • They detect the radiation and alarm authorities. • Interstate are reinforced. • Improvements were done. • Fix of odd records will be done.
