"Boostingfood and nutrition securitythrough EU action: implementingourcommitments" - a joint report with MS to befinalised end of May 2014 • First bi-annual report- how the EU and MS are delivering on agreed policy priority commitments taken on Food and Nutrition Security since 2010 : • a quantitative assessment based an analysis of the distribution of the total investments • a qualitative assessment of how well EU and MS are working together at national, regional and global levels with regards to coordination, complementarity and coherence.

EU support for 2014-2020 shouldseek to: • Addressroot causes of chronicfood and nutrition insecurityusingsufficientresourcesin order to ensuresustainable impact and long-termresilience • Increasesustainable agricultural growth to meet future foodneedsas well asenhanceincomes and resilience of small-scalefarmers (particularlywomen) and rural communities • Improvenutritionalstatus, with a focus on mothers and childrenunder2-years  contributing to the overall goal of reducingstuntingin7 million childrenby 2025

  6. EU support to agriculture and food & nutrition security is tackled in various ways: • Geographic programmes (country, regional, continental level) • Thematic Programmes (mainly global and continental) EuropeAid 6

  7. Agriculture / Food and Nutrition Security: GeographicalProgramming ? ? ? • About 55 Delegations have selected FNS-SA as focal sectors for in theirMIPs for 2014-2020 of which 27 in Africa Not Focal sector LDC LMIC UMIC & Graduated

Agriculture / Food and Nutrition Security: GeographicalProgramming • Agriculture growth and resilience to foodcrisis are the main priorities • Main subsectors are related to: value chains, services to farmers, watermanagement/irrigation, commercialisation, policy coordination/governance, land tenure, informations systems • Around 40 countries have retained nutrition-relevant sectors and then will participate to EC 7 Million reduction stunting target (Nutrition Action Plan) • DEVCO C1 provide support missions to Delegations through advisory services : ASiST (social transfers), NAS (Nutrition), FANSSA ( sector approach)

Global Public Good and Challenges Programme- Food and Nutrition Security, Sustainable Agriculture • Thematic interventions provideadded value notably in the followingpriorityareas: • Generating and exchangingknowledge and fostering innovation • Strengthening and PromotingGovernance and Capacity • Supporting to poor and insecure to react to crisis and strengthenresilience • Theyaddress global and continental dimensions of foodsecurity, which go hand in hand withpolicies and initiatives developedat national level • Theyalsoaddressthe transition fromhumanitarian to development intervention EuropeAidDays 2014 Brussels, 17 - 21 March
