Becomes friends with other artists: monet, sisley, bazille • They develop a new style of painting called Impressionism • uses bright colors placed next to each other, quick brush strokes • Work outdoors, observe how light effects objects as it moves across sky
Luncheon of the Boating Party (1881) In 1890, he married one of his models, Aline Charigot (she’s in the painting above). They had 3 sons.

Develops rheumatoid arthritis (1892) – still paints while in wheelchair • Moves to warmer climate in south of france • Visits Louvre in 1919 to see his own paintings alongside the masters • Dies of Pneumonia December 3, 1919 (age 78) • Two of his paintings have sold posthumously for more than $70 million each Self Portrait (1910)
