What is Monitoring? Monitoring for EVS teachers and paraprofessionals means • close and informed observation of students’ mobility • direct supervision of travel for safety
Monitoring Includes • Encouraging the use of O&M techniques taught by the O&M teacher • Making corrections for safety, when necessary • Intervening verbally or with physical assistance for safety, when necessary • Encouraging maximum independence
Working As a Team for Monitoring • Develop a monitoring plan. The O&M teacher, theTVI, and theO&Mparaprofessional work together. • Work with the EVS supervisor to review the monitoring plan and share it at sites.
Working As a Team for Monitoring • Communicate with the classroom teacher about monitoring and safety. • Stay in touch with the O&M teacher and EVS supervisor about • student performance • student needs • Review and update the monitoring plan based on student need, e.g., • schedule changes • vision changes • changes in student skills • construction at school or site
