The Indian army is finally getting its lot of bullet resistant armour – world class ballistic helmets - that it had been waiting for the last two decades. In the coming couple of months, a Kanpur based ballistic armour manufacturer and supplier, MKU Industries, will build and supply over 1.59 lakh world class helmets to the army. The helmets that the soldiers now use in anti-insurgency or anti-terrorist situations are bulky and do not provide protection if a bullet is fired at the head of the soldier. These helmets were designed to protect the wearer only from splinters and stones and bullets that have ricocheted and grazed the helmets. To bridge this gap in protection, the army had been demanding for new age bullet resistant armour for long years – the wait has finally come to an end with the government inking the deal with MKU Industries for bullet resistant helmets.
The new class of ballistic protection gear will benefit the army in more than one way: - Will act as a great morale booster for soldiers who, so far,had to do with their old, heavy helmets that offered limited protection, that too for the top of their heads and not for the sides - The indigenous bullet resistant armours are designed with 13mm trauma protection pads – which means countless lives in the live combat zones can now be saved which could otherwise have been lost due to poor head protection gear - Helmets for "commanders" will also be equipped with integrated headsetswhich would facilitate better communication Army chief Gen BipinRawat has welcomed the step and said that there is a need for the Indian soldiers to be empowered with technology to give them added protection and lethality, such as with bullet resistant armour. He also said the army wants to ensure technological revolution similar to what the other armies across the world are doing.
It is to be noted here that soldiers in advanced countries, like US and UK, have long opted for modern ballistic helmets which are made of high-tenacity composite and polyethylene materials and provide greater protection against head injuries which are common to get inflicted on while engaging in ousting the enemy or forcing them to surrender. Some helmets are also built to be equipped with crucial communication gadgets such as video cameras, thermal, chemical and biological sensors, along with visors which act as "heads-up computerized display monitors" in front of the eyes, and help improve the overall movement and lethality of the wearers. Look for a reputable company that offers superior quality bullet resistant armour to help the heroes to fight at the warfront and survive the life threatening situations.
