  2. There are currently two angels at Coventry Cathedral… www.coventrycathedral.org.uk

  3. The new angel is made from something unexpected… The new angel has been made by artist Alfie Bradley and is made entirely from knives that have been handed in to police all over the United Kingdom, turning something that could be used for harm into something beautiful to make us stop and think. www.coventrycathedral.org.uk

  4. Face and Hands of an Angel What expression do you see on the Knife Angel’s face? What is he thinking? How is he feeling? Why? Why are the Knife Angel’s hands like this? What does this gesture say to us? www.coventrycathedral.org.uk

  5. Difference and Conflict • Sometimes we run into conflict with each other. It is how we respond to it that is important. • We are all human whatever our differences. Difference is good. Difference makes life interesting and diversity is something to celebrate. • But sometimes the differences we encounter can seem like a barrier between us. We have questions we feel we can’t ask and things we feel we can’t say. Sometimes a wall can grow between people and then, sadly, there are times when the only thing that seems to cross that wall are words that hurt and actions that harm. www.coventrycathedral.org.uk

  6. A Different Way to Manage Difference • The Knife Angel invites us to explore our differences in a different way. • Instead of words that hurt and actions that harm can we find peaceful ways to live together and be reconciled despite our differences? • What can you do when you face conflict? www.coventrycathedral.org.uk

  7. The Coventry Way • Coventry is known for its message of peace and reconciliation across the world. • When Provost Howard held the Cross of Nails following the bombing of Coventry in 1940 he said “Father Forgive”. There was no ‘them’. It takes all of us to live in a world free from violence and hatred and hurt. Provost Howard called this a ‘kinder, more Christ-child-like world’ during his Christmas Day speech in 1940. www.coventrycathedral.org.uk

  8. The Knife Angel Keeping our communities as places where people feel safe no matter who they are or how they are different to each other is something for everyone to be responsible for, not just the police. How we talk to each other and how we treat each other really matters. There are better ways for us to live together. You can make a difference.
