LEADING WORSHIP
What’s the point of Corporate Worship?
Liturgy and worship are central to the C of E because it believes that its doctrine (what it believes) is enshrined within its liturgy (how it worships)
Preparing Worship: • Have people been able to meet with God? • Have people had a sense of being the Body of Christ? • Has the worship expressed God’s heart for the world beyond?
From the Preface to COMMON WORSHIP • express faith – create identity • celebrate our rich inheritance & best of contemporary forms • acknowledge multiplicity of contexts for worship today • encourage imaginative engagement • provide challenge: • to worship God better and take ‘greatest care’ • to draw whole community into worship • provide a forum in which Christ is made known • see worship as a pilgrimage – ‘a journey into the heart of God’ • celebrate diversity – not a single volume… • accessible resources eg. internet
WHAT YOU CAN’T DO: • can’t preach • can’t absolve • can’t consecrate • can’t give the blessing
