  1. Movement of Energy Through an Ecosystem

  2. Food Chain – • the transfer of energy and matter in the form of food when one organism eats another organism.

  3. Food Web – • a group of food chains within the same ecosystem.

  4. Roles within Food Chain / Food web • Sun – the energy source that fuels a food chain. • Producer –plants convert the sun’s energy into food by a process known as photosynthesis.

  5. 3. Consumer – an organism that eats another organism. • Herbivore – an organism that eats only producers. • Carnivore – an organism that eats only other consumers. • Omnivore – an organism that eats both producers and consumers • Scavenger – eats dead organisms.

  6. Decomposer - – an organism that feeds on dead or decaying matter and breaks down the nutrients into the soil making them available for use.

  7. Flow of Energy Arrow represent the flow of energy

  8. Energy Pyramid Energy is lost (10% energy transfer) as you move up the pyramid
