WHAT IS GRANTMANSHIP? • The craft and skill of applying for grants. • Grantmanship requires a mix of skills such as skills to: • understand and analyze the needs of the grant opportunity; • respond to it appropriately; • harness the current literature in your field; • apply it convincingly in the grant application, and • Planning skills for time, cost, and procedures are also necessary. • Grantsmanship involves: • Organizational planning: vision, mission and goals? • Organizational management: Team to write and manage the project • Fiscal management: Cost implication and sustainability • Defining relationships and partnerships: Partners, roles, etc.
WHAT IS GRANTMANSHIP? • Reasons for FUNDERS to support your PROPOSAL • The problem addressed is significant. • Established credibility as an institution, and in the subject area addressed. • Good planning is evident throughout the proposal. • Team members writing are knowledgeable in the field • Strong commitment to the project. • The funding source is concerned with the same problem. • Some Reasons for FUNDERS not to support your proposal • Failure to match your goals with the foundation’s goals • Too many complex details and past achievement • Past achievement create credibility but limit this • Procedural irregularities, and promising too much, too ambitious.

Step 1- Publicity through • Centre’s Website • Several Stakeholders meetings • Alumni (National and International) • Relevant Professional Bodies (Nigeria Computer Society, Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria) Step 2: Selection Process • Expression of Interest Form • Technical Committee (TC) to evaluate and shortlist • Centre Management Board- Consideration and Approval of TC’s report • Final approval by the Governing Board
HOW TO ATTRACT SECTORAL PARTNERS Step 3: Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) • Review of draft MoU • Issues with respect to IP (IPTTO office) • Meetings with Partner(s) • Signing of MoU • Involvement of University Management during stakeholders meetings • Provision of enabling environment ( offices, research facilities, etc.) by the Centre • 3 of our sectoral partners were involved in developing the proposal and the implementation plan
