Psalm 119:2 • “Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart!” • Certainly, we must keep His word – Matt. 7:21-23 • It must be whole-heartedly – NOT just what is left, with divided loyalties or weak devotion • Matthew 5:8, Psa. 119:3, 69Psalm 139:1-2
Psalm 119:4 • “You have commanded us To keep Your precepts diligently.” • Diligence means with great effort • Christians are to be diligent – Colossians 3:23, 2 Peter 1:5-7, 10, Hebrews 11:6, Romans 12:11 • Serving God is not easy. But with diligent effort it can be done!
Psalm 119:9 • “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” • Society is filled with temptations. Our youth are bombarded with sensuality, conformity and other temptationsMuch of society attacks respect for authority, especially God! • As parents, we must prepare them for this Prov. 22:6, Ephesians 6:4, Prov. 3:1, 6:20 • Teach our youth to look to His word for guidance – Philippians 4:8
Psalm 119:11 • “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” • We must share His word – Matthew 5:14-16, Psalm 39:1-3 • This text indicates His word must be deeply rooted within us. Not shallow • Luke 8:11-5, Psalm 1:1-3 • 1 Corinthians 4:5, Hebrews 4:12 • Let His word keep you from sinning.
Psalm 119:36-37 • “Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.” • Incline – to turn something in a particular direction • To avoid sins – 1 John 2:15-17, Matthew 5:27-28, Galatians 5:19-21, Job 31:1 • God’s word inclines toward contentment, self-control, self-discipline, humility , standards with friends.
Psalm 119:40 • “Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.” • Longing is craving something we miss • Is that our attitude toward His word? • Psalm 84:1-2, 42:1-2Psalm 119:20, 174 • Matthew 5:6, are we hungering and thirsting after righteousness • How much do we crave God’s word? How much do we desire assembling with our brethren?
Psalm 119:53 • “Indignation has taken hold of me Because of the wicked, who forsake Your law.” • 1 Corinthians 13:6 • Sadly we are living in times of great rejection – Isa. 5:20, 1 Tim. 3:1-5, Eccl. 8:11 • Are we grieved with compromise in churches? • Psalm 119:115, 104, 136 • Will we give up ungodly friends for Him? 2 Corinthians 6:14-17, 1 Corinthians 15:33
God HAS spoken! Will we listen and obey?
