  2. Aim of Today • To give a brief overview of Sporting Futures Training and Educational Futures and their partnership with Hertfordshire Schools • To give an overview of School –Based Apprenticeships • OPPORTUNITIES – HOW COULD YOUR SCHOOL MAXIMISE APPRENTICESHIPS AND THE APPRENTICESHIP LEVY?

Sporting Futures Training Educational Futures Giving individuals opportunities to aspire and achieve through the delivery of Quality Apprenticeships About us The Teachers Training Team A team of Herts based Innovative, experienced Senior School Leaders , PE Staff, working within and throughout school networks. OFSTED 2018: Headteachers highly praise the support and training their apprentices receive from staff and managers at the provider.

Apprenticeships Currently offered by Sporting Futures Training/ Educational Futures FRAMEWORKS • Level 2 - Intermediate Apprenticeships in Activity Leadership • Level 3 Diploma - Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting The Delivery of PE and School Sport STANDARDS • Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard – Generic • OR • As a progression individual OR for upskilling existing staff You can attach a PE Focus by including the Level 4 Diploma in Primary PE Practice ( cost attached £750) • Level 2 Community Activator – Coach Standard – Focus on health and well-being Middle Management Apprenticeships – Suited to Aspiring Subject/Curriculum Leads • Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship

Value of Upskilling an existing member of staff For example: Teaching Assistant Apprentice - Generic • Investing in your staff – • Value your Employees • Motivate your workforce • Bespoke training and support that can work for the individual and the school • End Point Assessment scheduled for 13-15 months after the start of the course. With the Level 4 Diploma in Primary PE Practice • Provide further support and development of content knowledge related to PE and School Sport

Value of PE Apprentice to Primary/Secondary schools Primary • Timely use of PE Premium or Apprenticeship Levy – 16-18 yr olds bring £1000 additional support Government incentive. • Schools can employ PE Apprentice to provide increased opportunities for participation during lunchtime/after school activities • Extra pair of hands to support PE Co-ordinator in primary • Positive role model for young people • Support in raising the profile of PE and School Sport within school and the community • Engaging young people through healthy lifestyle agenda • Home-grown coaching workforce that can be nurtured and developed into Teaching support for PE • If trained within the SGO model they can provide the link with the local PE and School Sport network, thus enhancing opportunities for the linked school • Can show impact

Apprenticeships Considerations OFSTED Justify the 2.3% Public Sector Apprenticeship Target Use your levy before you lose it Non-Levy Contribution towards Training reduced April 2019 to 5% Opportunities to use the Apprenticeship Levy as Training Budget Opportunity to use PE Premium to Employ a PE Apprentice Motivate and invest in your staff Senior Team could upskill through Level 5 Team Leader Aspiring Middle Managers – Subject Curriculum Leads could be upskilled through the Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship

Commitment from Schools • You will need to have a mentor within your setting and their role would be : • To ensure Apprentice is given appropriate workload. • To support Apprentice within their school setting and be point of contact for both Apprentice and Lead Tutor. • To work with the Training Provider to ensure a quality Apprenticeship is delivered for the individual. • Where and when possible to observe and monitor performance of Apprentice. • Access to a computer and email important.

Wages 2018-2019 EXISTING STAFF REMAIN ON EXISTING SALARIES NEW APPRENTICES can be employed on the following: Apprenticeship wages – based on 30 hr a week – 52 wk contract Intermediate Apprenticeship ( Approx’) – April 2019 Wages outline • 16-18 years can be paid £3-70/hr = £117 a week for 52 weeks. £6552 • 19 plus can be paid the same in their first year of an apprenticeship with a potential negotiated uplift for experience. Advanced Apprenticeship (Approx’) • 19 plus in the second year of an apprenticeship can be paid £6.15 /hr = £184.50 a week £9594 a year • In second year or 21 plus - 7.70 /hr = £231 Week £12012 All figures are based on the National Minimum Guidelines for Apprentices Wages – Schools can always negotiate and uplift salaries Wages 2018-2019
