Shut the car engine with parking brakes on. ▪LOCATE THE BATTERY: Check your vehicle owner's manual for the your car battery’s location for unhooking. ▪LOCATE THE TERMINALS: Identify the positive and negative posts and the respective cables attached to each. The positive terminal will be in red and have a + sign while the negative will have a minus sign and is black. ▪NEGATIVE FIRST: Using a wrench, loosen the nut or bolt that secures the negative battery cable to the negative battery post. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal post and move it away from the battery. Next, loosen the nut or bolt that secures the positive battery cable to the positive battery post. Remove the positive battery cable from the battery terminal post and move it away from the battery. ▪REMOVE THE OLD BATTERY: batteries are heavy and weigh upto 15kgs, thus you need to pull it our safely after carefully loosening from the battery holder.
▪PUT IN NEW BATTERY: Clean the terminals of the new battery and the cables completely. Place the new battery in the battery holder and fasten it to its place. Make sure the terminal match the cables. This time, connect the positive terminal first followed by the negative terminal. Apply battery grease on the terminals. ▪SECURE: your battery before trying to start the vehicle, this helps to prevent the battery from moving around while the vehicle is in use. ▪RECYCLE your old battery at a service station or recycling center.
