  2. The Academic Literacy course is designed to extend the informational reading proficiency of grade 7 students.  By the end of this course, students will have achieved two overarching goals: • 1.  Be critical consumers of informational texts • 2.  Write in response to informational texts

  3. Grading Protocol 2014-2015

  4. Weighted 30%: Assessments • Tests • Quizzes • Projects

  5. Weighted 60%: Daily Performance Tasks • Work that is done in the classroom on a daily basis categorized by the following: • Comprehension and demonstration of student understanding of concept • Distributive Practice • Extending/Refining • Writing Assignments

  6. Daily Performance Tasks • Formative Assessments • Vocabulary Enrichment • Notebook Check

  7. Weighted 10%: Preparation for Class • Homework (not to be more than 5%) • Class Participation • Class Preparedness • Teachers may use discretion to separate Class Participation & Homework within this category

  8. Preparation for Class • Late work policy should be consistent with the policy below. If homework/classwork is gone over in class, late work does not have to be accepted unless the student was absent. • No Extra Credit can be earned with classwork.

  9. Preparedness for Class • No Extra Credit can be earned with classwork. Teachers should not drop the lowest grade from the gradebook. • No extra credit may be given • Absentee late work will follow district guidelines.

  10. Late work • The earned percentage grade will be reduced by 10% for one day late. • The earned percentage grade will be reduced by 20% for two days late. • The earned percentage grade will be reduced by 30% for three days late. • After the third late day the grade results in a zero.

  11. Beginning of Class Expectations - Always enter quietly - Read the “Do Now” posted on the board -Prepare for class (clear your desk of binders, have your writing instrument, SSR book and your class notebook on your desk top)

  15. Unit Four – Understanding Genres of Informational Text • Textbook • Informational article • Biography • Editorial • Reflective essay • Connections between texts

  16. Unit Five – Study Strategies • Note taking • Outlining • Skimming & Scanning

  17. Unit Six – Vocabulary Development This unit work is infused throughout the entire school year. • Affix and Roots • Reference Materials • Multiple Meaning Words
