Main WG targets for EPOS • A. Review current infrastructure status within Europe • Review and overview (national and European scale) of existing and planned • Observational infrastructures (networks/observatories) and laboratories • Data access and repositories • B. Evaluate European scale data access and integration requirements • Identify/define: • 3. Responsible institutions and contact persons • 4. Expectations/requirements from the user community • 5. IT/software requirements for data access/products/integration • (meta data, QC, provenance, etc) • 6. Data and products interoperability requirements • (aim at existing/developing IT standards for interoperability)

‘Long-term’ general issues EPOS WG1 Seismology Pragmatics: ORFEUS coordinates WG1 (existing organisation facilitates) A. Coordinate and integrate ORFEUS and EMSC organisations Should ORFEUS and EMSC remain separately or integrate? (services for research community broad public earthquake information) B. How to integrate ORFEUS (and EMSC) within EPOS? Both ORFEUS and EMSC have an existing governance and financial structure. These should not be replaced before an integrated EPOS solution is available that guaranties the basic funding for both organisations. C. Take advantage of EPOS to extend collaboration in Seismology RI’s (mobile, OBS, acceleration, SP, infrasound, …)? D. Should WG1 integrate also other activities: Borehole observations (see NERA), induced seismicity (THAIS), …?
EPOS WG1 current actions Modified from the preliminary document • A core group within WG1 coordinating WG tasks in the project: • Proposed: Salvatore Mazza, Lars Ottemöller, Nikos Melis, • Winfried Hanka, Torild van Eck. [reporter Salvatore?] • Note: ORFEUS long-term strategy team: • Winfried Hanka, Domenico Giardini, Nikolai Shapiro, • Alberto Michelini, Torild van Eck • Provide a short overview of status and on-going initiatives: • Summarize existing ORFEUS and EMSC material • Summarize on-going projects and initiatives • Coordinate and publish our meetings/workshops, etc • (NERA, SHARE, project proposals, planned meetings, etc) • Proposed WG1 actions: • Specific EPOS WG1 actions necessary? • Select on-going meetings/workshops/initiatives relevant.

EPOS WG1 specific tasks As distributed in the preliminary document • Provide an overview of the current state of the • Seismological Observatory RI in Europe • Coordinate current developments and implementations in • seismology with the planned e-science infrastructure for EPOS • Promote (seismology) and guide the EPOS (e-science) • demonstration experiment • Promote (seismology) EPOS nationally and assist in • obtaining a national commitment for EPOS • Promote (seismology) EPOS participation beyond the • current EPOS PP consortium
