What is Think, Rethink, Reread, and Reexamine Thinking? Helps students monitor, assess, and reevaluate their initial predictions and reactions to a text. Helps student to record and organize their thoughts. This tool lends structure to small groups discussion. It helps students record their initial response after a reading. They discuss their responses with others and then reread the text and reexamine their the thinking. Is a before, during, and after reading tool.
Why would I teach this strategy? It requires students to think before, during, and after reading. Requires students to think about their thinking and reassess their predictions, especially with any new information found. Allows students to express their thoughts verbally about a specific topic. Follows a pattern of: Read/discuss/reread/discuss Each student is responsible for synthesizing experiences and summarizing their thinking, point of view, and questions.
How would I teach this strategy? Read a non-fiction passage. Think: Students write down their initial thoughts and questions. Discuss: Talk to partner to share initial thoughts and questions.
