2 ways bacteria reproduce: • Binary Fission • Conjugation
Binary Fission • Asexual: no union of gametes • cell divides into two equal sized and genetically identical cells in a process similar to mitosis
Conjugation • Sexual: involves 2 bacteria • Exchange of genetic information (DNA) through a specialized structure • Called a sex pilus: bridges gap between cells • Bacteria now have different DNA
