PURPOSE • Raise awareness of what else is out there (select sample) • Possible Learning/Experience Sharing • Stimulate Debate about other initiatives, national and international…. • …that MeTA could leverage from, to strengthen its own processes and avoid duplication, consolidate efforts and form strategic alliances.
KEY QUESTIONS Who should MeTA have strategic engagement and/or relationships with? How should MeTA position itself and what should its persona/identity be? How should it be known, internationally, in, say, three years time?

RELATED CIVIL SOCIETY CAMPAIGNS • EG ‘PUBLISH WHAT YOU PAY’ CAMPAIGN AND EITI • FIND/ENCOURAGE SHADOW CIVIL SOCIETY MOVEMENT FOR MeTA • Who are the big Health INGOs/Campaigns?

…. • Global FOI network…(foia.net) • African Centre for Freedom of Information (AFRIC)
Strong National FOI Laws & Strong National NGOs Eg: • Bulgaria • Mexico • Jamaica • South Africa (constitutional right to privately-held information, where required for exercise or protection of any right) • India (see specially tailored sector-specific laws, to supplement general FOI law)
GLOBAL BODIES/ACTORS • UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION • INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF INFORMATION COMMISSIONERS (OSLO, SEPT 2009) • REGIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS RAPPORTEURS (EG LATIN AMERICA) • UNDP: CENTRE FOR GOVERNANCE • WHO?
OTHER: • National professional associations such as Canadian Association of Access Administrators • COGEL: North American association of ethics officers
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER Entities to engage with internationally? Entities to engage with in-country? What persona/identity for MeTA do we want to build?
META PERSONA/IDENTITY Independent international foundation with members, or Loose Alliance? Trend setting (charter, benchmark) Global identity Global campaign about medicines price Need to be locally owned – country- led and built, not donor(s)’ led Adhering to MeTA Principles: Charter
