The RISD Foundation High School Program (FHSP) provides flexibility for high school students to pursue higher education or a career. Students can earn Endorsements, Performance Acknowledgements, and a Distinguished Level of Achievement. Multiple course sequences available.

Advancing to Each Grade Level In order to advance to the 10th grade, students must have at least 6 credits by the end of the school year. To advance to 11th grade, students must have at least 12 credits by the end of the school year. To advance to 12th grade, students must have at least 18 credits by the end of the school year.
Foundation High School ProgramFoundation HS Program w/ Endorsement(s)orseents The FHSP provides flexibility for high school students to pursue either higher education or a career. A single graduation plan, the Foundation High School Program (FHSP) will give students the opportunity to build on the FHSP by earning Endorsements, Performance Acknowledgements, and a Distinguished Level of Achievement. Students will need to declare their preferred endorsement areas, in writing, during their 8th grade year. Students will be able to change their endorsement at any time.

Endorsement details • RISD offers all 5 Endorsements on each high school campus • Students may earn multiple Endorsements • Students entering 9th grade (for the first time) in 2014 and thereafter must indicate their endorsement area in writing • Students may choose at any time to change their endorsement area and parents must be notified • Students may graduate without an Endorsement if after the student’s sophomore year a parent or guardian files written permission Richardson ISD | Where all students learn, grow and succeed. RISD Distinguished Level of Achievement • A student may earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement by successfully completing: • Requirements for RISD FHSP • Requirements for at least one Endorsement • Total of four credits in mathematics, which must include Algebra II • Total of four credits in science • DLA allows for consideration in the top 10% for automatic admission to a Texas institution of higher education Richardson ISD | Where all students learn, grow and succeed. Performance acknowledgements • Students may earn Performance Acknowledgements • For outstanding performance in one of the following: • AP • PSAT, ACT-Plan, SAT, or ACT • Bilingualism and Biliteracy • Dual Credit • For earning a nationally or internationally recognized Business or Industry Certification or License Richardson ISD | Where all students learn, grow and succeed. Acceleration opportunities • Dual Credit (Richland) • Available to eligible students (qualifying test scores) • Beginning with first time 9th grade in 2015-16, dual credit courses will carry 5 quality points upon successful completion (70 or higher) and will be calculated in formal rank and GPA. Beginning with first time 9th grade in 2018-19, dual credit courses will carry 10 quality points upon successful completion. • Courses offered on LHHS Campus: • Zero hour US Gov’t., Economics, and English 4 • Dual Credit English 3 and 4, US Gov’t., Economics (during the day) • Some CTE courses • Students must take two courses per semester on Richland College Campus • AM or PM Session (students take two courses per semester) • Students can pick up information on dual credit opportunities in the counseling office. • More information on P-TECH opportunities during the breakout sessions! Acceleration opportunities • Dual Enrollment- OnRamps (UT Austin) • Dual enrollment courses will carry 5 quality points upon successful completion (70 or higher) and will be calculated in formal rank and GPA. • Courses are taught by a LHHS teacher and a university instructor. • Students will receive two separate grades, one for the college grade and one for the high school grade. • Courses offered: • English 4, Pre-Calculus, Physics, Geoscience, Computer Science, US History, Statistics, College Algebra, Principles of Chemistry 1 & Arts & Entertainment Technology Richardson ISD | Where all students learn, grow and succeed. As you help your student choose classes • Keep in mind: • AP/Pre-AP/Honors Classes • Students may only drop the class at the end of the 4th week of the 1stQuarter or at the end of the 1st semester. • Quality points are given for passing grades in those classes. • Electives • There are no elective changes, so choose wisely.
