Description of the Initiative • Access to social protection and legal services - a strategy to mitigate impact of the HIV infection and reduce HIV risk • Six states initiative of one year in partnership with UNDP, NACO, SACS and Affected communities • Demand generation through the involvement of Community Resource Persons • Advocacy with nodal departments for a non stigmatized and speedy service delivery

Lessons from the Intervention • Access: 4,029 families of PLHIV and MARP applied, and 1,497 availed socio-economic schemes, legal services, and identity documents. • Major Facilitators: history of advocacy and rapport with government, proactive key officials, and/or better follow-up by PLHIV and MARPs. • Impediments: lengthy process, separate follow up for each scheme and department, complicated application forms

  4. NextSteps • Schemes and legal literacy sessions and follow-up support for PLHIV and MARPs to be integrated as part of routine prevention and care services. • Application process to be streamlined at district level • Support to community members towards submission of application forms needs to be available at district and sub-district level.
