Ecology: Basic Definition It is behavior, or how an organism interacts with its environment Environment could be anything: inside a house, social interactions, weather, etc.
Pleasure: Ecologically Objective Subjective We all have our own opinion We all like hiking, swimming at the beach, and mountain biking What do you like? • It is impossible to view pleasure one way. • One person may interpret a picture one way, and another person may interpret the picture differently
Predators and Prey Culture Climate Society Behaviorism
Societal Influences (Women) • Every woman must look “perfect” to attract a man, right? • We feel pleasure by being what Society tells us to be
Societal Influences (Men) • Same For Men, (To some degree) • We must be taller and stronger than the next man. • If we men achieve this physique we are “happier.”
Predators vs. Prey Predator Prey People like being submissive. Enjoy being taken care of Animal Play Puppy licking Zebras playing • Being dominant maximizes pleasure (Control) • Feeling of power • Napoleon Complex • Rape • Animal play • Lions plays • Dogs mounting
Climate • Seasonal • Winter is the most depressing season • It’s cold, it turns dark earlier, normally cloudy and “grey.” • Summer is the least depressing season • It’s warm, bright and sunny. • Geographical • Tropical vs. Arctic
Culture • Dancing • Tribes in the rainforest have parties just like many Americans • Pleasurable in both cases • Asian vs. America • Much more structured educational and family wise in Japan • Pleasure = Drive/social status for many Asian cultures • Important to stand out and be known within their culture
