The DEPUIS Project • DEPUIS - Design of Environmentally Friendly Products Using Information Standards • Aim: to improve the environment aspects of new products and services through the innovative use of new information standards • Fits the European Commission Integrated Product Policy, promotion of the use of life cycle thinking with SME’s i.e. take into account the full product or plant life cycle • A European project of 10 partners from 8 countries. • Mixture of industry groups, consultants, software companies, training institutes, certification institute • Project runs two years: Sep 2006 – Sep 2008 • Depuis standards network is one of 6 Europe Innova intiatives • DEPUIS, INNOVAFUN, BIOHEALTH, EUROMIND, STANDA-INN, STEPPIN

Objectives of DEPUIS • Help SME’s to use product data technology (PDT) for communication, comparison and archiving technical data • Produce a Multimedia Handbook on product data technology • Organise e-learning courses with a view to enable SME’s to adopt IPP environmental tools such as LCA and Ecodesign • Provide basic knowledge to software developers in order to produce software compatible with international standards • Provide feedback to standards developers • Explore potential for a Certification scheme for PDT knowledge and skills management to support the environmental impact of products

Interested Parties Forum (IPF) • Interested Parties Forum (IPF) is a collection of of bodies and parties with SME representation, invited to: • Establish the users requirements • Validate the multimedia handbook and the e-learning model • IPF invited to assist in promoting the importance of PDT and LCT knowledge and skills to SME’s

  10. The DEPUIS Challenge • Demonstrate the beneficial effect of information standards on the environmental impact of products and installations • DEPUIS team works on the House Case showing the usefulness for optimising the house construction looking at CO2 emissions
