  1. Faith That Can Take The HeatDaniel 3 Evangelical Christians face a lot of pressure to give up on our fundamental convictions. • the Bible is the final authority on all matters of life • Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the ONLY way to heaven Is our faith strong enough to take the heat?

  2. Faith Tested by Crisis Daniel 2:47 (NIV) “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.” EVERYONE had to bow down and worship the king’s statue. Nebuchadnezzar was testing his officials to see where their loyalties were. Have you ever faced a decision that tested the resolve of what you believed in?

  3. Faith Displayed through Courage How Christians respond to a crisis in life often determines if others want anything to do with Jesus. Exodus 20:4,5a (NIV) 4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them. It’s easy to stand up for truth when no one is around to see it. It’s harder to stand up for truth in a crowd.

  4. Daniel 3:14–15 (NIV) 14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. v.15b – But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?”

  5. Faith Proclaimed by Confession Daniel 3:16–18 (NIV) 16 “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. Is that the kind of confidence you have in our God? He is ABLE to save you He is WILLING to help you in your moment of crisis.

  6. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” A challenge to our motives for obedience. An expectation  if we are good Christians – God will be good back to us. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego remained obedient to what they knew was the right thing to do in spite of the outcome!

  7. Faith Affirmed by a Companion Daniel 3:25 (NIV) 25 “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” Fourth man: Jesus – a pre-incarnate appearance of the true Son of God He came to rescue them and commend them on the faith they had demonstrated

  8. Too often we want Jesus to show up to rescue us from the furnace But God often wants us to go through the furnace We meet Jesus IN the furnace. Too many of us as Christians are in “furnace avoidance” mode. God calls us to take a stand for him.

  9. Faith Modeled though Commitment Daniel 3:28–29 (NIV) 28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.”

  10. Others witnessed the incredible power of God. Other Jews were strengthened in their faith and trust in God. 1 Peter 1:7 (NIV) 7 These [trials] have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 2:12 (NIV) 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

  11. Are you prepared to face the heat? We have so many examples to follow. Hebrews 12:1 (NIV) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
