“Success” Success - dictionary meaning = the accomplishment of an aim or purpose = attaining wealth, prosperity and/or fame = victory, triumph, favorable result Our society instills in us success it’s all about wealth, fame, and all the material things in this world. Whatever we have, we’re supposed to save up and use for ourselves. A desire for more, a focus and priority in buying, obtaining more possessions, getting nicer things, bigger home, car, the latest fashions in clothes & etc. In many ways, this temptation towards obtaining more and more is the epitome way of life, of a so-called “successful” life. The more we have, the nicer things we possess, the more our neighbors and others will look upon us as “having made it.” Individualistic, self-centered pursuit of wealth, fame, and power, where ego becomes the center of the world! What is success? For Christians, success can never be measured by money. When people say, "That man's worth ten million dollars," that tells he's wealthy, but it doesn't prove he's successful. The measurement of success is simply the ratio of talents used to talents received. What we are doing with what we've got, plus who we are becoming. Success. According to the world, and according to God. Two completely different things. May each of us take care not to become a “fool” in God’s eyes, but to live out our lives as good and faithful stewards of all He has given us! Remember, success does not depend on how many possessions we have, but on how few possessions we need to be content in life, and thus, in our willingness to joyfully share our abundance with others. Success in the eyes of God does not depend on how comfortable and easy our life is, but on how we ascetically (extreme self-denial) strive without ceasing to sacrifice for others and to bless the lives of others. Divine love, which implies a life of giving, not gathering; of helping, not focusing on oneself. God’s definition of success according in: Jeremiah 9:23- Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches. V24- But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” (ESV) It’s quite interesting to understand that “success” in God’s eyes has nothing to do with an abundance of wealth, fame or power. ADD A FOOTER
Key to success according in: Joshua 1:8-This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (KJV) Our success as followers of God is directly related to our time spent in His Word. The above passage says having good success in this life is preceded by meditating on God's Word day and night. It goes on to say that, as we meditate on it day and night, the result is the ability to 'observe and do all that is written in it.” What is the connection between applying God’s Word to our life and knowing success? And when we adhere to the bible, the instruction manual for human living the same is true. According to Joshua merely reading or knowing the bible is not enough, not only by head but it should be done by heart. We are “to do according to all that is written therein” Only then can it make a difference in us and through us and for us. Only then we will know success as God defines it. We all want success in life—not just in our educations and careers, but in every aspect of life. And not just short-term achievements, but lasting success. We must make the pursuit of this goal more important than any other goal we have in life. Jesus said in: Matthew 6:33-But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. V34- “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (ESV) ADD A FOOTER
This approach to lasting success is offered to us freely by the Creator of all things. When we begin to apply these in our life, we will realize that we need to make some changes. As complicated as life is, we need all the help we can get! A.W Pink says, “We cannot expect the God of Truth to be with us if we neglect the Truth of God”. To God be all the Glory! ADD A FOOTER
