  5. MHHS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS *students must pass a class with a grade of D or better to earn credits

  6. MORE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Students must also complete the following to receive a high school diploma. • Service Requirement: students must complete 40 hours of community service • State Algebra Requirement: students must pass at least one year of a course with Algebra 1 content (this can be met with Math 1B, Math 1, Math 2, or Math 3) • School Attendance Requirement: students must attend high school for all four years Meeting the high school graduation requirements prepares students to attend community college, trade school, or enter the world of work.

  8. HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS • Academics • Set a goal of earning A’s and B’s in your classes. • Create a homework schedule and stick with it. • Find a balance. Make time for school, extracurricular activities, time with friends and family, and sleep. • Get Involved • Join a club or start your own • Join a sport • Join a class/program like band, choir, or drama • Take yearbook, leadership, or journalism class • Do community service • Ask For Help • Talk to your teachers • Meet with your counselor • We want to support you! Just ask!

  11. SUCCESS PERIOD SUCCESS period is an intervention period built directly into our school day! This means that you can get the extra support you need without giving up your lunch or after school time. • Students are assigned to SUCCESS at each grading period (approximately every 5 weeks). • If you have a D or an F, you will be assigned to SUCCESS. You must attend SUCCESS until the next grading period, even if you raise your grade before that time. • If you have three or more Fs, your schedule will be changed to add an Academic Study Skills class. This means you may lose a flex period or an elective class. If your grades are all C’s or better, you get an extended lunch! nom nom nom

SCHEDULE • Standard Schedule • 6 Classes + Flex Period • If students pass 6 classes per year all 4 years of high school, they will earn enough credits to graduate. • Flex Period • Flex is a period during which students are not assigned to a class. • Students must be on campus during flex. • Flex can be used to do homework, study for tests, or even relax and socialize. A break during the school day can help lower student stress. • Students do not earn credits for flex period. *Students have the option to register for 7 classes. Students with a 7-period day do not have a flex period and should anticipate additional homework and demands on their time. MHHS guarantees 6 classes to all students. You may request a 7th class, but it is not guaranteed.

  14. SCHEDULING DATES Scheduling Window: February 12th - February 25th If you do not sign up for classes during this window, they will be selected for you. Curriculum Fair: February 15th5:00-8:00pm Parent Night for Incoming Students: February 15th at 6:00pm

  15. 9th GRADE CLASSES STUDENTS NEED TO SELECT THE FOLLOWING COURSES ON THEIR AERIES PORTAL. • English • English 9 • Honors English 9 • Science • Integrated Physical Science 1 (REQUIRED for Math 1A students) • Biology • Honors Biology • Elective • Choose any elective that looks interesting to you! • Some students choose a World Language class to begin preparing for 4-year college • Flex • The majority of students sign up for a flex period • You may sign up for an additional elective instead of flex if preferred THE FOLLOWING COURSES WILL BE ASSIGNED TO STUDENTS AUTOMATICALLY. • Math • Math will be assigned to you based on criteria determined by the district, which may include your MAP scores, your current 8th grade math placement, and your grade in your current math course. A waiver will be available if you wish to petition to change your math placement. • Social Studies • Global Studies (1 semester of Health will be paired with this course) • PE • PE Course 1: freshman PE will be assigned to you STUDENTS MUST SELECT ALTERNATES FOR ALL ELECTIVES!

  16. HONORS & AP MHHS recommends a maximum of 2Honors or AP classes per year.

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS • Most students have about 30 minutes of homework per night for each regular level course • AP or Honors classes have 1 hour of homework per night for each advanced class • Student athletes can anticipate spending 15-25 hours a week on their sports. *These estimates are based on students who work hard from bell to bell during their class time. Think about overall time commitments and choose classes wisely.

MHHS PROFESSIONAL PATHWAYS Earn special recognition at high school graduation if you complete one of the MHHS professional pathways! • Pathways are made up of introductory, concentrator, and capstone courses in your chosen area taken throughout high school • Pathway options include: • Engineering PLTW • Biomedical Sciences PLTW • Computer Science PLTW/Network Engineering • Arts, Media, & Entertainment • Culinary Arts • International Studies/World Language/Business

  19. COURSE REQUESTS We do our best to give every student their first choice of classes. • Sometimes classes get full, conflict with one another, or are cancelled. In this case, students may be placed into an alternate course or a flex period. The courses selected through the Aeries portal are requests, not guarantees. • Students will pick up their schedules at walk-through registration in August, a few days before school starts. At this time, they will see the order of their classes and their teachers. • Course changes may be requested during the first 2 weeks of school and will be granted on a space available basis. Students may not request to change teachers or class order.

  20. MHHS ONLINE PROGRAM • Designed for self motivated, goal oriented, independent learners • Expected time commitment is one hour per online course per day • Interested students must apply and participate in an interview process to be accepted. Space may be limited. • An informational meeting will be held in March for interested students and families. • For more information, please visit the MHHS website.

  21. Early College Program • Gain experience in taking college level courses. • Take courses that count for BOTH high school requirements and college requirements at the same time. • Earn College Credits while in High School • Earn High School Diploma AND Associate of Science (AS) degree while in high school.
