  8. Present Working Environment • Mr. Hardin currently teaches: • Principles of Technology I- an applied physics course that teaches an understanding of basic principles in the areas of force, work, rate, resistance, energy and power. Each unit studies how that particular concept applies to mechanical, fluid, electrical and thermal systems. • Principles of Technology II- a pre-engineering course that covers both the PT II and IST curriculums. Areas of focus are hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, quality assurance, electronics, AC/DC motors, CNC, PLC's, plastics, lasers, and other forms of technology. • Introduction to Trades and Industry- Covers the basic concepts and skills of local trades and industries. 9. Best Educational Memory • Working with students to build computers for the school system • Mr. Hardin and his students in Computer Engineering built computers for schools in all of Avery County • I was fortunate enough to be in one of those classes and it was an experience that I will never forget • How many people can say that they built a computer from ground up when they were a Junior in High School? • His students in Networking were involved in networking the schools • When I took Networking I went around the High School with two other Seniors and ran network wires to the various classrooms, this is another experience I will never forget

  10. Impact of Media Coordinator on Education • Mr. Hardin thinks that Media Coordinators have a very significant impact on education • His experience has been that Media Coordinators teach the other teachers how to use technology • They also work along side classroom teachers to develop both informative and productive lesson plans • Media Coordinators do more than just check out books in today’s society • They have to work with computers and technology a lot more

  11. Problems and Other Issues in Education • Mr. Hardin feels that No Child Left Behind is an ineffective program • Too much emphasis is placed on students with modifications • The average student is left out or neglected • Not politically correct • Education today pushes teachers to try to be everything for everybody • It is difficult to try to tailor lesson plans to fit each and every student’s needs • Threat of lawsuits from advocates of special education students • Making sure that the rights of the students are being met

  12. Future of Education • Mr. Hardin spoke about what he would like to see happen in the future of education • Figure out what students are good at and then teach them • Get rid of No Child Left Behind or make some serious modifications • He did think that Year-round schools would be the norm in the future • Due to the current economy he feels that education will need to offer courses which prepare students for trade and industry based jobs

  13. Fun on the Farm • I want to close this presentation with a short video clip of Mr. Hardin working with one of his Norwegian Fjords on his farm, please click on the following link Hank Hardin with his Fjord, Nora
