  3. 2008-2013 District Goals • All students will excel in reading, writing and math • All students will engage in arts, activities, and athletics • All students will demonstrate the character and competencies for workplace success • All students will stay in school on target to graduate

  4. Getting Started Complete the information at the top of the document. (Note: Mentor is your Support Provider)

  5. Reminder • Check the appropriate Induction Standard (Ask your Support Provider if unsure).

  6. School ResourcesWho can assist you with your classroom and students? • Complete the contact information for each type of resource personnel listed. Be sure to include information such as room number, email, phone number, etc. • Don’t assume your site does not have some of the resource personnel listed. The purpose of this document is to learn what is available to you at your site. Check your staff roster and ask your administrator for assistance.

  7. ProgramsWhat programs exist before, during, and after school to support your students? • Speak to your administrator and colleagues about your site’s programs. Check all that apply. • Be prepared to discuss how these programs might support your students with your Support Provider.

  8. State and Federal DesignationsSchools have various designations • Ask your site administration which of these apply to your site. Check all that apply. • Be prepared to discuss with your Support Provider the impact and considerations for your teaching.

  9. Links with NCLB (No Child Left Behind)Discuss what you know about your school in terms of student achievement and how that might inform your teaching. • Complete all 5 areas. Speak with your site administrator for required information. (Note: District goals are listed on the third page of this power point.) • Refer to the REA (Research, Evaluation and Assessment) Department for information on API/AYP: www.fresnounified.org/dept/rea

  10. Parent/Family InvolvementHow does the site communicate with parents and families? What strategies are in place for the development of school-family partnerships? • Check all that apply • Reflect on the two questions and answer them completely. Think about your four types of focus students when answering these questions. How do you foster family involvement in the classroom and in the education of their child? Be sure to include information about your EL families (i.e. how you get written/oral communication translated, etc.)

  11. Community ResourcesWhat do you know about: Area surrounding your school’s location? • Take the time to find out about the area around your school. What are the school’s attendance boundaries? Describe what is located in the area (i.e. library, community center, park, businesses, types of housing, etc.)

  12. What do you know about:Student attendance? • Thoroughly discuss student attendance and student population. Speak to your administrator and attendance clerk. Include available data regarding mobility, attendance rate, drop out rate (if applicable), etc. What resources are available at your site to monitor and improve attendance?

  13. What do you know about:Student Population? • What are the ethnicities of your students? List by percentages for both your class and your school site. • How many boys and girls are in your class and in your school? • What else do you know about your students? (i.e. foster care, parents in prison, single parent homes, two income families, parent education levels, drug abuse, gangs, extended family, etc.) Explain how these environmental factors affect your students. Include how you develop a safe, inclusive, healthy learning environment for your students.

  14. What community resources are available to you, your students and families? • Research community resources available. What is available in the neighborhood as well as the community and district (i.e. health care clinics, mental health services, referral services, tutoring services, special education services, migrant and bilingual services, etc.)
