3 4 Numerator Denominator What is a fraction? • A fraction is a part or a portion of a whole. • The number written on the bottom, or the denominator, tells how many parts the whole is divided into. • The number on the top part, the numerator, tells you how many of the whole you have.
Fraction Collections • A fraction can also be a part of a collection. • The number on the bottom is the denominator and that shows how many in the group. • The top number is the numerator.
