Our Challenge • The industry landscape has changed but there are signs of recovery • The worst is over, economic forecast brighter and earnings are set to rebound in 2013. • To inspire confidence we need a new approach: • Full and open access to the NHS – industry/NHS partnership on skills • Collaborative research -attractive to private investment in innovation • Developing an industry that is fit for the future which will be attractive inward investors and will foster growth in SME’s • Skills and competence are part of the solution to deliver a life sciences industry that is ready for growth.

The Proposal • To generate, for the first time, an integrated life sciences workforce • Where innovation is shared across public/private sector • And there is an on-going conversation on research and the exchange of ideas between public and private sectors • Allowing skills to become the medium of innovation and growth

  5. What does this mean? • Formation of a partnership, driving skills development with fresh ideas and fresh thinking • Creating an understanding and an opportunity for dialogue at all levels • Using a common skills agenda to foster growth across the life sciences sector

Academy for Healthcare Science • The opportunity to use the Academy infrastructure and its people to enable both public and private sectors to: • work together • develop ideas • have translational and recognised career progression • have regional access for SME’s to support them with acquiring the skills they need Leading to .... Facilitating: • Portability of qualifications • Understanding and transferable career progression • Removal of barriers allowing working across boundaries Enabling: A Life sciences Professional Training Framework to deliver a life sciences workforce fit to deliver growth

Information and Skills Exchange • Allowing an exchange of information and ideas • Brokering secondments on a project basis into Universities, Hospitals and the Private Sector. • Letting people influence innovation, free from the confines of individual; corporate and institutional agendas. • Creating a skills ecosystem with parity of esteem, respect and value.

  11. Delivery the way SME’s want it.. • Catapult and Centres of Excellence easily accessible by SME’s locally when they need support, in the way they need support • Building on what we have aligned with the growth agenda, delivering a real competitive advantage
