  3. WHERE IS CHINA? BEIJING

  4. CHINESE ENVIRONMENT • China is the world's biggest energy consumer, according to International Energy Agency in 2009. (Not per capita though) • China is the world's largest consumer and producer of oil because she relies 70% on coal for energy supply. • China is the world's biggest producer of the carbon dioxide (CO2), according to Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. In 2030, her CO2's emission can maybe be equal to entire world's emission rate. • In 2010, China is leading the "Green Economy" with Germany.

GREEN OLYMPICS 2008 (Public Policy) • Luckily, in 2001, China could be the place for Olympic in 2008. • DO NOT GET CONFUSED WITH OLYMPIC GREEN (park in Beijing)! • "Green Olympic" = "High-Tech Olympic" and "People's Olympic“ • Aim is 'Green Olympic'. Basically, Chinese people tried to make surrounding green color; they are trying to reduce polluting such as CO2. • Chinese people shut/implemented factories near place for Olympic.

  6. Decision Makers • One of the main decision makers are the administrative agency. In 1978 the Constitution of the People's Republic of China was revised and the protection of environment was added.Also forpolluting industries, were companies like Panasonic or Pepsi-Cola are included,are going to forcced to closure in bad cases.

  7. MANNER OF CONSULTATION • Not much detailed is known for this, but… • Election by IOC (International Olympic Committee)

  8. WHO DID GET AFFECTED MOSTLY? • Olympic spectators • Olympic participants and related people • Factory workers • Beijing (maybe whole Chinese?) residents

  9. OUR THOUGHTS • TAKUYA: Yes, this policy is great idea! First of all, by trying to make China "Green", visual of place is good/beauty. More importantly, by doing this, environment will be clean, so it is definitely benefit for human's health, meaning they don't have to get any diseases. • KOICHIRO:China is very dry and the air feels very dirty. Even at the Tiananmen Square which is one of the most famous places, isn't even a single tree planted. So they should work on this idea.

QUESTION 30 seconds to think and 2 people to answer each one • Which place do you prefer to go: place that CO2 is emitting, but you can get expensive foods freeORplace that has clean environment, but to get foods, you have to pay money? Why? • How do you think China is going to change it self in the future. More green or everything is going to be covered with concrete.
