  3. Quick check / review • What’s a syllogism and how is it related to an argument? • What is the process of deduction?

Today’s Objectives • Practice deduction through Pico Fermi Bagels game • Watch two logical titans debate the existence of God – a debate held at University of Notre Dame – and capture how they use deduction to form their arguments • DineshD’Souza • Christopher Hitchens • Next week -- begin to look at a variety of moral issues and attempt to make logical arguments for your position about those moral issues; quiz towards the end of the week on philosophy

Practicing Logical Thinking: A Game • One person writes a 2-3 digit number • Another person guesses what that number is • For each guess, the number creator gives them a hint… • Pico Fermi Bagels • Fermi: there is a correct digit placed correctly • Pico: there is a correct digit placed incorrectly • Bagels: no digits are correct
