Human Subjects Research Training Having a Successful CITI Experience
What is CITI? • CITI stands for the “Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative” • Basic education on conducting ethical research with human subjects • UW-Madison policy requires that all personnel engaged in human subjects research complete human subjects training
CITI • https://my.gradsch.wisc.edu/citi/index.php (this will bring you to the CITI testing site) • You will need to log in. This can be done one of two ways: • With your UW-Madison Net ID (the simplest method) • By creating a profile through CITI
Which One Do I Take? • CITI will offer you three options: • UW Biomedical Course • UW IRB Member/Staff • UW Social & Behavioral Course You want to take the UW Social & Behavioral Course.
The Modules • 9 Modules Total • History and Ethical Principles • Defining Research with Human Subjects • Assessing Risk in Social & Behavioral Sciences • Informed Consent • Research with Protected Populations – Vulnerable Subjects • Research with Children • Research in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools • UW-Madison Financial Conflicts of Interest • University of Wisconsin - Madison
The Quizzes • 8 Quizzes • The quizzes require an 80% pass rate. • You can retake the quizzes as necessary if you don’t pass the first time. Or the second, third or fourth time
After you’ve completed the courses, it will generate a certificate to show you successfully completed the training:
Assuming you logged in with your UW-Madison Net ID, CITI will “talk” to WebKit, and let the Office of Research Services know you’ve successfully completed the training.
And you’re done! CITI training is good for three years. Unless you become a UW IRB member or IRB Office staff, or need to submit a protocol that involves biomedical research, you won’t have to take this again for another three years.
Questions? Everyone in the Office of Research Services is knowledgeable about the CITI process, and we are here to help. Please feel free to contact any one of us if you get stuck in the process. Lil Larson 263-2320 Jessica Hirsch 265-4312 Jeff Nytes 262-9710 Lori Hogg 263-2301 Lee Alliet 265-5207
