  4. FHP Whitebark Pine Restoration Program • 2007 – WO – FHP provided $200,000 seed money for restoration projects • Needed to develop a method to distribute the funds

  5. Technical Committee Develop a process to: • solicit proposals • define criteria for proposal evaluations • rate proposals and make recommendations for funding

  6. 6 Types of projects • Assessment – Surveys and monitoring

  7. Conserving Genetic Diversity • Operational cone collections

  8. Harnessing Natural Resistance • Rust Screening • Plus tree cone collections

  11. Special Projects • Mycorrhizal Inoculation • Monitoring Clark's Nutcrackers • Fire Modeling WB populations

  12. 07 Program • Total of 56 proposals submitted • Requesting over $1,000,000 • Selected 24 projects – $267,000 • With a match of $291,000

  13. 08 Program • Received a total of 62 projects • Requesting >$2,179,000 • Recommended 14 for funding • Total of $207,400; • $291,700 match

  14. 2008 Money “Game” • 200,000 Initial budget (14 projects) +7,300 R1 FHP addition • 27,000 WO Emergency Release (1 project) • 94,200 R1 Carry Over #1 (6 projects) • 40,400 R1/4 Carry Over #2 (2 projects) • 30,000 R1/R4 FHP surplus (2 projects) • $398,900 Final Total - 25 projects • Also had 203,500 From NFS – R1&R4

  15. 2009 Program • Anticipate similar program • Start with $150,000 from FHP • Process similar to last year • Except start earlier (RFP – Oct 1?) • Hope to have project recommendations by Christmas (instead of Feb)

  16. Update on a couple projects • Seed planting trials • Continuing, and need more • Have found warm start helps • Need to protect germinants
