  1. Selection of an Office for Atılım University Alumni Association Using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) Ayşe Kılıç Atılım University Industrial Engineering Department

  2. Contents • Why MCDM? • Why AHP? • Why Fuzzy AHP? • Hierarchical Model of an Office Selection • Applied Steps • Findings & Results • Conclusion

  3. Why MCDM? • To be able to make the optimum selection, • To have complete and reliable information regarding specifications, alternatives and outcomes (Zucca et al., 2008; Chang et al., 2008; Witlox, 2005), • To prevent the conflicting of several factors.

  4. Why AHP? • Ranks the decision alternatives and selects the best one (Taylor, 2004) • Has the convenience in handling both qualitative and quantitative criteria of MCDM problems based on DM’S judgments • Well-known method for solving decision-making problems, • One of the best ways for deciding among the complex criteria structure in different levels, • Maps the DM’s perception in choosing the superior alternative, • Provides hierarchical structure, • Facilitates decomposition and pair-wise comparison, • Reduces inconsistency, • Generates priority vectors.

  5. Why Fuzzy AHP? • Reflects human thinking in that it uses approximate information and uncertainty to generate decisions (Kahraman et al., 2004), • Deals with the uncertainty due to imprecision and vagueness, • Has the capability of representing vague data, • Allows DM’s to express approximate or flexible preferences using FN, • Considers the inherent uncertainty in such decisions, • Achieves more flexibility in judgment and decision-making (Zadeh, 1965).

  6. Definition of Criteria • Parking • Rent • M2 • Number of rooms • Type of the residence • Easiness of transportation • Security

  7. Hierarchical Modelof an Office Selection Factors Atılım-MED Office Selection Criterion 1 Criterion 2 Criterion 3 Criterion 4 Criterion 5 Criterion 6 Criterion 7 Alt. 1 Alt. 2 Alt. 3 Alt. 4

  8. Pair-wise Matrices for Each Criterion Sub-Factors Alternatives

  9. Steps Of Fuzzy AHP Step 1: Formation of the Decision Matrices

  10. Steps Of Fuzzy AHP Step 2: Determination of Fuzzy Comparison Matrix (Cox, 1995) Al, Am, Au are calculated.

  11. Steps Of Fuzzy AHP Step 3: Calculation of (Chang, 1992)

  12. Steps Of Fuzzy AHP Step 4: Calculation of =(7.312901 , 8.854325 , 10.352020 )

  13. Steps Of Fuzzy AHP Step 5: Calculation of

  14. Steps Of Fuzzy AHP Step 6: Defuzzification, calculation of Win These steps from 1 to 6 will be applied for also to the alternatives in terms of each criterion.

  15. Priorities of Factors Weights of Factors in terms of Alternatives ×

  16. Findings & Results W2>W3>W1>W4 Select the area of 2.

  17. Methodology Used The area 2 is the most appropriate alternative for the Atılım-MED office while 7 criteria is considered.

  18. Conclusion • There exists subjectivity / uncertainty • Taking the fuzziness into account reduce the risk • The optimum/less risky decision is determined • Other MCDM methods such as TOPSIS, ELECTRE, etc.
