  3. Fall 2012 Applicants

  4. Fall 2012 Admission Numbers by College* All CSU eligible local students were offered admission to SJSU, though not necessarily to their preferred major. For details about Fall 2012 impaction results, please see http://info.sjsu.edu/static/impaction.html. Visit www.oir.sjsu.edu for the Office of Institutional Research.

  5. CSU Preparation The following criteria need to be met as an upper division transfer student: • No lower division transfer or second baccalaureate applications will be accepted. • Complete 60 transferable semester units or 90 quarter units. • Earn a minimum college GPA of 2.00 or better in all transferable courses . • Be in good standing at the last college or university attended. • Complete 30 semester units (45 quarter units) of general education including four basic skills courses: • 1. One course in oral communication (A1) • 2. One course in written composition (A2) • 3. One course in critical thinking (A3) • 4. One course in mathematics or quantitative reasoning, with intermediate algebra as a prerequisite (B4). • For Fall 2013 admission: The four basic skills courses and minimum of 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units) must be completed by the end of the Spring 2013 term. • Earn a "C" or better grade in each basic skills course (a C- is not sufficient to meet this requirement). Remember! All admission is provisional, until verification of final transcript.

  6. Fall 2013: Selection Impaction: SJSU receives a greater number of applications from eligible students than we have the space to admit. Therefore, meeting the minimum requirements may not be enough to gain admission to SJSU.

  7. SB 1440 • The Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440 – Padilla), signed into legislation on September 29, 2010, enables the California Community Colleges and California State University to collaborate on the creation of Associate in Arts Degree (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) Degree transfer programs.  This new law requires community colleges to grant an associate degree for transfer to a student once a student has met specified general education and major requirements for the degree. Upon completion of the associate degree, the student is eligible for transfer with junior standing into the California State University (CSU) system. • Students are given guaranteed admission into the California State University (CSU) system, and further are given priority consideration when applying to a particular program that is similar to the student’s community college major. The law prohibits the CSU from requiring a transferring student to repeat courses similar to those taken at the community college that counted toward their associate degree for transfer.   • Please note that a student with an AA-T or AS-T is not guaranteed admission to SJSU, but into the CSU system.

  12. Fall 2013 Appeals • SJSU reviews each applicant's record thoroughly in the admission process and admission decisions are rarely reversed.  The admissions process is completely objective, based on each applicant's self-reported academic qualifications on the CSU Application for Admission and official transcripts received by published deadlines. • Appeals to admission decisions must be submitted within 15 days of the denial notification. All appeals will be reviewed and responded to within three weeks. • SJSU does not set aside space in our class for students who appeal admission decisions. Every denied application has been reviewed for maximum consideration. Therefore, for an appeal to have merit, it must bring to light new academic information (send official documentation of new information to eval@sjsu.edu). Grades received in the current academic year are not a basis for an appeal or the reversal of a decision. • SJSU does not consider appeals to missed deadlines, no matter how compelling the circumstances.

  13. Stay Connected! • For admission updates visit http://info.sjsu.edu • SJSU communicates almost entirely by messages and “TO DO” lists posted on the student’s MYSJSU account. • Students need to check MySJSU account regularly at http://my.sjsu.edu • Activate your MySJSU account by going to http://sjsuone.sjsu.edu. Click on “Activate Your Account” to begin the process (you will need your SJSU ID, date of birth, and mailing zip code to activate your MySJSU) • View My Messages • Check To-Do List • Update Contact Information
