  1. The Lord removed His royal robe, Laid a side the crown of gold, Then said good-bye to the Father for a while; (for just a while;) To come and pay the debt I owed, And I'm sure glad He loved me so! Yes, Jesus came to walk that last lonely mile. (the lonely mile.)

  2. Thorns and nails and bleeding hands Were all a part of God's own plan, Tears and blood combined to make me heaven's child; (heaven's child;) When they looked down and saw my need, God and Jesus agreed, That He'd come down and walk that last lonely mile. (the lonely mile.)

  3. Now they're like music to my ear, Sweetest words I'll ever hear, That old love story of a Savior crucified; (crucified;) I ask myself, oh, how could He Die for sinners just like me? But, He came down to walk that last lonely mile. (the lonely mile.)
