  1. Data Security Issues • Do not email data unless absolutely sure district/school network is secured • Be aware of where printed documents will arrive • Never: • tape passwords to computers • have the computer remember the password entered • Written passwords should be stored somewhere secure • Saving student data on a laptop or flash drive is risky business. • Fine for staff to view student data in TIES DW using a laptop, but if they want to download and store data, they would be better off doing so on a secure desktop at school with network security provided by the school tech staff. • Be sure to log out of TIES DW and, if storing student data on the computer, log out of that computer before leaving.

  2. Data Use Issues • Approach the data with a “Question of Interest” and an idea of the data needed to answer it • Error Escalation • First check with MARSS Coordinator at your school • Then inform Data Management Coordinator if correct in MARSS B file.
