Canada’s Projected Population Growth (2010 to 2050)
This graph shows the importance of immigration to Canada’s future population and economic growth. Economists suggest that it is important for a population to continue to grow (slowly) in order for the economy of any country to grow with it. More people means more products are needed, which creates more jobs, and more wealth. Because of the aging baby boom and since most Canadian couple only have 1.6 children, natural increase will become negative starting in approximately 2030 (this will continue for approximately 30 to 40 years), immigration will be the most important source of growth for the population and the economy.
