What is Advanced Professional Certification for Civil Engineers? • Licensed civil engineers with advanced professional and technical expertise in geotechnical engineering • Similar to board certification in other professions (e.g., medical, legal, accounting) • Demonstrates attainment of advanced body of knowledge and commitment to life-long learning • Enhances the profession for the benefit of the next generation of engineering leaders
ASCE Academy History • 1998, 2007 - ASCE Policy Statement 465 and 524 • 2004 – Civil Engineering Certification, Inc. (CEC) • 2004 – Academy of Water Resources Engineers • 2008 - Academy of Geo-Professionals • 2009 – Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers founded

Requirements for D.GE Certification • Achieve Body of Knowledge required for Diplomate status • B.S. + M.S. or 30 hours of specialty graduate courses • P.E. License • 8 years post-P.E. progressive experience in specialty • Active in geotechnical engineering • Be of good moral character and high ethical standing • Complete application with references • Competency assessed by panel of peers • including oral examination (may be waived)
