  2. 2000 Millennium Celebrations - Pub was closed so community bought a 70ft Marquee - Strong Community Activities & Clubs: - YFC, Nursery, School, Welfare, Playing Field, Church/Chapel - Funding from Bonus Ball Scheme New Marquee Bought from Awards for All Grant in 2005 New Marquee Committee formed to promote new developments

  3. 2003 Community Land Initiative Originally 6 Plots in centre of the village for £120,000 3 plots to locals at £28k each and £375 a share – community ownership = £137,000 raised in 10 days Today in 2006 there has been no developments on the site Land lost to developer of 15 houses – but residents blocked planning

  4. YMGYRCH YSGOL HERMON Fund Raising Past Pupils - £2,000 Auction - £6,000 Protest March - £2,000 Donations - £3,500 Festivals - £3,000 Activities - £5,000 Events - £4,000 Total = £25,500 (Group Legal Aid,VAT , Gift Aid)

  6. CWM ARIAN FORUM INORGUAL MEETING JANUARY 2005 • Launch Action Plan for the 3 Villages • Ensure that the school site is retained for the community. Deeds Found. • New Co-operatives / Social Enterprises • Ysgol Feithrin Hermon – Community Crèche : Charity Status • Assist in drawing in new development grants • Set up Website www.cwmarian.org.uk

  7. Celtic Blue Rock Festival Llanfyrnach Over 7,000 people attended in 2009 • 550 Volunteers help out to make it possible • 60 Bands playing free • Free Entry – but pay £15 eco parking • £35k to stage the event • Licensing Course for community • Regular gigs www.celticbluerock.org

  8. Community Resource Centre Share Offer September 2007 • Community Cooperative • £120k purchase price • £60k deposit needed by March 07 • Co-op UK helping with IPS • £52k raised to date • CFAP Bid of £180k • Lottery Bid for £350k

  11. CWM ARIAN Energy Funding won for £8k feasibility study • Contract Awarded to Dulas Looked at Hydro, Solar, Wind & Biomass • Recommended Wind Energy • 2 x 1.2MW turbines = £330k per annum • 12 Months actual wind readings • £1.1m Capital cost • Submit Planning www.cwmarian.org.uk

Low Carbon Communities Challenge CWM ARIAN Phase 2 Application = £400k towards community energy initiatives Initially Cwm Arian area but widening to 4 wards - Crymych, Clydau, Trelech and Llanboidy = £2,600 households Investing in Social Enterprise development within micro renewables manufacture Community Land Trust for Industrial Units & Affordable Houses Lowering the Carbon Footprint for the area Farm and household energy production – Feed in Tariffs

  13. Low Carbon Communities Challenge The main benefit from the scheme is an annual community low carbon income steam from energy sold to the grid. The revenues will be used as follows: 40% of revenue - capital cost grants to households for the installation of insulation/ draught-proofing, solar hot water systems, biomass heating systems and energy efficiency measures. 20% of revenue – National conferences arranged in the community resource buildings with investment in low carbon social enterprise seed corn support for new renewable energy technologies 10% - information leaflets/ house to house training about carbon footprinting. 10% - initiatives that support a reduction in travel through the establishment of car-share schemes and timetabled bus services. 10% - support for local initiatives that assist with community carbon reduction (such as community composting initiatives, mobile shop/service provision) 10% - administrative fees Cwm Arian

Renewable Energy and a Community Resource Centre A catalyst for future developments Numerous additional opportunities available for communities and villages who are proactively prepared to work together in achieving their goals. A new residential Conference centre at Canolfan Hermon. Financed by community shareholders assisted by Credit Unions – community owned banks.
