1. Mortal Kombat Narrative Recap Introduction and The Realms Most fighting games do not have great plot lines. However, Mortal Kombat sets itself apart due to its story. This game has been running for around 27 years and has had three spin-offs creating a universe that has amassed a huge following. The Mortal Kombat universe is made of realms which are like planets and exist in separate dimensions. Of these realms, there are four that are most notable which include the earthrealm, the Outworld which is a desolate world with a history of warlords such as Onaga, the Edenia which is a magical beautiful realm, and the Netherrealm, which is hell and the realm where people get sent to when they are very bad or dead. These are the basis of the Mortal Kombat universe. To catch up the sequence of events, here is the storyline so far.

2. The Tournament As it is told, in the beginning, there was only the One Being and the Elder gods. The Elder gods united to attack the One Being and then created 6 weapons called the Kamidogu which split the One Being into the six pieces which got lost with the Kamidogu’s six pieces. These pieces became the realms which allowed life to grow inside them. Each realm then had someone to represent it and held the essence of the realm. However, the realms were in constant war with each other especially the Outworld which wanted to conquer all the realms. This was under the rule of Onaga the Dragon King who was the Outworld’s first emperor and could using his heart raise fallen soldiers from the dead and hence created an undead army to expand his territory. To control this, the Elder gods created Mortal Kombat a martial arts tournament for the strong warriors to battle it out and hence, gave the defending realm a fair chance of avoiding invasion.

3. The Death of the Elder Gods To take over a realm, a realm must defeat it 10 times in a row. Such was the fate of Edenia at the hands of Outworld and its queen, Sindel married Shao Khan the ruler of the Outworld. However, Sindel killed herself and while she was brought back to life, she was never the loyal loving wife that Shao Khan thought she was. The emperor violated the rules of the Mortal Kombat tournament and the Elder gods were unable to hold him accountable which eventually led to Armageddon and also the death of the Elder gods. With the new Mortal Kombat, the trailer hints at the introduction of a new Elder god who will have the ability to control time. And will probably set things in motion to enable erasure of certain timelines or actions.
