Characters • Eliezer • Chlomo • Moshe the Beadle
Eliezer (main character) Tried to learn Mysticism Moshe the Beadle taught him for a short time 15 when taken away from his home. Rode in a cattle car for an unknown time. His 1st camp was Auschwitz . After arriving, the guards split the people into 2 lines. His mother and younger siblings went to the right line, he and his father went to the left line. It was the last time he ever saw his mother and sisters again The left line was of men or teenagers the left was of women and small children.
Continued Eliezer stayed with his father no matter what happened. His 2nd camp was Buna They stayed in Buna for several weeks or months. Then they left for Gleiwitz. They marched and marched in the snow, most of the men died on the journey When they arrived they stayed for only 3 days. Then they were to be transported to Buchenwald. Buchenwald was liberated and Elie and all the men in the camp were set free. They were taken to a place where that were taken to a place where they were taken care of 1st. Crematoria
Elie’s father • Gave portions of his food to Elie • Tried his best to be strong for his son • Passed all but one of the selections they had at the camps. • Wouldn’t let Elie sleep when they stopped to rest after marching Chlomo
When they settled in the last camp before they were liberated Chlomo died.
Town Hobo • Stayed out of everyone’s way • Well known • Taught Elie Mysticism • Told the people of what was happening in other towns • Told the people where to go to be safe • And was never seen or mentioned again Moshe the Beadle
Main events were when they were sent to the camps, when his father died, and when they were liberated. Events
My Opinion • I thought that the book was a pretty good example of what the holocaust was like. And that Elie done a good job of trying to help us see what the holocaust was like, even though we will never know what it was and what wasn’t. That is just one of the many things we will never really know the full truth of.
Climax • When they get to the concentration camp and everything starts: the beatings, the work, the starvation, death, selections, etc.
Resolution • After being liberated from Gliewitz they all tried to start their lives over.
Setting • Auschwitz • Where they first went • 1st separated from family (mother and sisters) • Then was sent to Buna….
Buna • 2nd camp • Elie was beat by Idek • Was in his 1st selections • Had surgery for his foot
Buchenwald • Last camp • Where his father died • Where they were liberated
