Elderhostel/Road Scholar and Lifelong Learning Programs: 2013 • 22 Elderhostel programs, with 551 older learners • Elderhostel sites: • Richmond • Natural Bridge • Staunton • Harrisonburg • $425,000into Virginia’s economy from older learners (from tuition outlays and discretionary spending) Outlays: $181,000 for lodging/meals, $26,000 local staffing, $29,000 for tickets/admissions, $17,000 for transport, etc
Elderhostel/Road Scholar and Lifelong Learning Programs: 2013 • Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), Midlothian • Co-sponsored with Chesterfield County • 507 courses across 3 terms • 12,070 registrations, across 28 zip codes • 1,747 mid-life and older learners • 284 instructors • 2,298 mid-life and older learners overall in Elderhostel/Road Scholar and LLI programs

Geriatric Training and Education (GTE) 20 projects in calendar 2013, including: Alliance for the Prevention of Nicotine Addiction Cessation for Older Smokers (Norfolk) Alzheimer’s Association, Central and Western: rural outreach Alzheimer’s education workshops Roanoke Valley End of Life Care Partnership: Implementing POST Advance Care Planning Lucy Corr Foundation (Chesterfield): peer interdisciplinary oral health care training for health care providers in LTC Southwest Virginia AHEC (Tazewell) focus on care of older adults Thomas Jefferson Planning District (Charlottesville): Central Virginia Transitions of Care Workshops
GTE Statewide Training • Virginia Geriatrics Society: geriatrics CME/CEU training for non-geriatric physicians, NPs, pharmacists, etc. • Virginia Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse: training on elder abuse/neglect/exploitation • VCU: statewide workshops and webcasts for social workers
Elder Abuse and Domestic Violence in Later Life • USDOJ three-year project with DARS (2012-2015) for local and statewide training and collaboration, focus on Bristol City and Washington County • Central Virginia Task Force on Domestic Violence in Later Life: V-STOP project with law enforcement, criminal justice, domestic violence, and other community agencies; and statewide focus with Domestic Violence Victim Fund
