Biographical Info • Born Henry Louis "Lou" (or) "Buster" Gehrig on June 19, 1903 Yorkville, New York City, New York . • Father was an alcoholic and mother was a maid. • Attended PS 132 in Manhattan for High school • Played 17 seasons with the NYY • Died at the age of a disease later to be named after him on June 2, 1941.
Personal Characteristics • Hard and Dedicated worker. • Very Smart, Studied College at Columbia • Very Strong, Hit a ball completely out of Cubs Park (Later renamed Wrigley Field) at the age of 17. • Brave, ALS
Why he’s a Hero • For New Yorkers, his many accolades, awards, and records. • He inspired a nation whenever ALS took over his body and the way he handled something so terrible. • The path he laid out for millions of ballplayers and lower/middle class children showing that no matter where your from, it is possible to achieve your dreams.
