  1. What To Do If You Fail The Mot Test Cars and motorbikes over three years old are required by law to undergo an annual MOT test to demonstrate that they are roadworthy. After three years, an automobile must be inspected annually to ensure it fulfills road safety and environmental criteria. This Ministry of Transport examination is usually referred to as an MOT. Why Might An MOT Test Fail According to DVSA statistics, 37% of cars fail their MOT test the first time. If your vehicle fails its MOT test, you will be informed of the problem and what you must do to correct it. Here are some of the reasons why your automobile can fail an MOT. ● ● Screenwash is depleted - Don't be surprised if this basic task takes only a few minutes. The automobile was filthy or cluttered - Clear the clutter from the trunk and cabin, then wipe off the windows and mirrors. A registration plate issue - For example, the plate had the improper typeface/spacing, was dusty, or was completely missing. If you have a personalized plate, be sure it complies with DVLA regulations. Stickers on the windshield obstruct the driver's view - Check that anything attached to the windshield, such as parking permits, is outside the wipers' sweep area. Dashboard caution light illuminated - the MOT has integrated illuminated warning lights. ● ● ● What Can I Do When I Fail The MOT Test If your vehicle fails its MOT, you will be given a VT30 Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate. The certificate will explain whys, your automobile failed its test and what needs to be done to pass it. Because the repairs required may be specialized, such as welding or emissions failures, they may not be possible to complete immediately. A VT30 indicates that your vehicle is not roadworthy and must be repaired before you may drive it again.

  2. Make sure to keep the VT30 form since you'll need it to schedule a retest or to appeal the verdict. Make sure to read your MOT testing guide thoroughly before a retest. Why Can Your Vehicle Fail MOT ● You will not be able to drive your automobile if it has a serious flaw. If the garage where you received your MOT tester does repairs, get a price from them, and then get quotes from other area garages. Even if they have to haul your vehicle to their garage, you may be able to get the repairs cheaper. If your vehicle has a serious flaw, you may be permitted to drive it away if it is still roadworthy and your prior MOT testing guide has not yet expired. If your MOT has expired but the car is still roadworthy, you can drive it to have the issues repaired and a pre-booked MOT. ● ● If you drive a car without an MOT under any other conditions, or if the automobile has serious flaws, you might face a £2,500 fine, a driving suspension, and three points on your license. How Can You Take Re-test MOT retests are either partial or full MOTs performed after your vehicle has failed its initial MOT. ● To make your automobile roadworthy, you must repair any significant and hazardous flaws and then arrange for a partial MOT retest, which your car must pass before you can drive it again. ● If you leave your car at the test center for repairs, you will be eligible to receive a partial retest for free if you do so within ten business days of failing the MOT. ● The test is usually free if you take your car away for repairs and return it by the end of the next working day. It depends on which sections are retested if it is free or not. ● If you return to the same test center within 10 working days for a partial retest, you will be charged a lesser cost, but it will not be free. This gives you enough time to make any necessary repairs before taking the retest. What If My MOT Test Expires If your MOT tester has expired, driving your car on the road is prohibited, and you might face prosecution. If your MOT has expired, you must schedule a new test and refrain from driving the vehicle until the test is completed. Keep in mind that you are permitted to drive the vehicle to a pre-arranged test appointment. Running without a valid MOT also renders your auto insurance useless. As a result, if you have an accident, you may not be protected. The only exception would be if you had previously scheduled an MOT and were driving your vehicle to the test.
